BASC Swim Lessons
Summer 2026
The swim club is excited to announce that we’ll be bringing our lesson program back this year. These casual, affordable group lessons help kids practice skills that will make families’ time at the pool safer and more enjoyable.
Who are lessons for?
These lessons are for children of members ages 4+ who are able to follow simple directions and to participate without a caregiver’s presence in the water.
Beginner level: for children still learning to put their faces in the water, float, and perform basic strokes, working toward the goal of swimming independently.
Intermediate level: for children who can already swim a width (not length) of the pool freestyle, working toward the goal of gaining the skills to pass the “white tag test” that clears children to swim in the deep end independently.
When and where will lessons be held?
Weekly sessions will run Monday-Friday during the pool season, based on interest and staff availability. July and August dates are to be determined.
-
- Session 1: June 15-19
-
- Session 2: June 22-26
The beginner lesson takes place 12:30-1pm and the intermediate lesson 1-1:30pm. Families will meet instructors by the “big pool,” and lessons will take place in an area roped off from recreational swimmers.
Who will be teaching?
Senior guards Windsor and Ainsley are excited to teach the next generation of swimmers. Between them, they have years of experience swimming competitively, guarding, and coaching.
How much do lessons cost?
A week-long session costs $50 for the first child and $25 for each additional sibling.
How many children will be in a lesson group?
Beginner lessons will be capped at 5 children, and intermediate lessons will be capped at 6.
What is the policy for missed lessons?
If the pool is closed for weather or health reasons, families will receive a refund for the missed lessons. Unfortunately we can’t offer makeup days. Because space is limited, we cannot offer refunds for absences, late arrivals, or behavioral issues.
Can families be present for the lessons?
Yes, the swim club will be open, so siblings and parents are welcome to use other parts of the pools. If you’d like to observe lessons, please do so without distracting children or interfering with instruction.
What is your swim lesson philosophy?
Swimming should be safe and fun. Guard-instructors lead lessons using positive reinforcement, games, and a sense of humor. Children will not be forced to do what they don’t feel ready for. A love of swimming comes from practice, repeated positive experiences, parent support, and time. Parents and caregivers can build on what their children learn with lots of recreational swimming.
Instructors will not spend lesson time addressing disruptive behavior. Children who aren’t ready to follow directions will be asked to join their caregiver and to return for the next day’s lesson.
We appreciate your patience as our staff and volunteers re-start this beloved program. We’ll do our best to make the experience enjoyable and smooth.
How do I sign up?
Sign-ups for lessons will go out by email to pool members at 9 am on Monday, June 8. Please note that only members who have paid for the 2026 pool season may sign up for lessons. If the roster fills up, don’t despair! Join the wait list. We hope to expand our offerings to keep up with demand, and additional sessions will be offered to waitlisted families first.
